i need an introduction . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

It's been a year.

Technically, it's not even been a half year, but it still feels like a whole, full, 12-month year, and I'm ready to be through with it!  Is that wrong?

My daddy passed away late in January.
He'd been in hospice care since December of 2021, so it wasn't a complete surprise, but I still wasn't ready for him to be gone.  I'm glad he's no longer suffering.
He was witty and clear-minded right to the very end, making us laugh with his quick sense of humor.  Such a ...

celebrate on . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I may have shared that I give as much time as my birthday wants to be celebrated. A week where you only work two days and have the next five free is as good a time to continue celebrating as any! I gave a whole post to the Tate Farms fun, but I'll condense the remainder of the long weekend here. Mostly.  I think.

Thursday, the weather continued to be beautiful, and since a wet, cool front was moving in on Friday, our regular boat day, Todd and I decided to go ahead and get our lake action in ...

two finishes from Mrs Sew n' sew

Hello again!  I am excited to have two completed quilts to share.
The first one is my Hospital Sketches quilt.  This was a Block of the Month that Barbara Brackman did over on her blog Civil war quilts.  I loved appliqueing the blocks and designing my own border.
I also loved handquilting it.  It took just over a year to quilt.  It helped me to get through Covid by giving me something to look forward to working on each day.  I quilted rather unpredictable free flowing feathers from small feathered rosettes at the intersections between the blocks.
I love the ...

late out of the gate . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

So.  Obviously my resolution for 2021 wasn't to spend more time on the blog.  Ha!

In fact, I didn't make resolutions (I haven't done that for the past several years, actually).  I took stock of 2020 (for what it's worth, am I right?), and instead made a couple of goals. Really, I just made a goal.  I finished my complete read of the Bible on December 24, but decided it was a lot of reading (the Bible in a year) without a lot of study.  So this year I decided to start over again, read just ...

Keeping busy from Mrs Sew n' sew

I'm posting about a longtime UFO today.  This is my Trailing Vines quilt started many years ago.  A year ago I was working on handquilting it. Sometime around May I switched to working on a different project and this got left folded up and crammed in a basket.  I was worried it might be getting some permanent wrinkles so I pulled it out to lay flat on the floor for a couple of days.
I really like this quilt.  I loved working on the applique.  But, I am not loving handquilting it.  For one thing its huge, its also ...

Monday Making from Love Laugh Quilt

Are you making little Christmas things this year?
I bet we ALL are making something.
It's part of the holiday tradition for me!

Can't let a Christmas go by without creating SOMETHING!
Right?

These little Santas are an old favorite of mine.
This year I made a few more and instead of adding fake greenery
I cut some rosemary from the garden.
I'm so happy with the look and the nice SCENT!!

I also made a super quick and easy little baby quilt!
Chinese coins in little boy colors.

Baby boys are a little bit tricky to ...

Monday Making from Love Laugh Quilt

I am exploring the King's Cross quilt block....

inspired by this OLD quilt.

It's good for me to get my brain cells  moving
as I try to figure out the quilt block.
:)

I found some tutorials for a 12" block.....
But I wanted a smaller version.

I posted a youtube tutorial HERE.

I'm also working on some applique borders.
The hospital sketches quilt needed a little more "something"...
so I'm enjoying some slow stitching and
adding a little more applique to the quilt.

What are YOU making this week?

Back to it from Mrs Sew n' sew

After a long and unplanned absence I'm ready to blog again.  The last few months have been very different and unpredictable and there just hasn't been time for blogging.  I always make time for sewing though - it's how I relax at the end of the day.
I participated in an Instagram Sunflower sewalong.  The pattern was drawn by Susie @fixer_of_old_quilts from an antique quilt owned by Cathy @quiltingcat2

I did get the 6 inch block quilt top finished.  I enjoyed sewing all of the flying geese units and putting them all together.  I have backing and batting ...

Monday Making from Love Laugh Quilt

It's been a BUSY week here!!

I visited my small quilt at the road to California
Quilt show.
:)

Added LOTS of half square triangles to my
Hospital sketches quilt!

After that....
I made plans for Graduation quilt SEWING DAY!
To be held next month.

Everyone who comes will make the 16 patch block.

If you SEW, then you know that not ALL the 16 patches will be EQUAL.
:)
Especially since many who come don't sew very often.

I thought by adding the corner triangles
I will be able to get them ALL uniform in size.
And no one ...

reproductions from Mrs Sew n' sew

One more post before the end of the year - its hard to believe 2019 is almost over.
When I was in Houston in November I had the opportunity to attend a lecture given by Leah Zieber.  It was so very interesting!  She had many, many small, vintage and antique doll quilts and crib quilts to show us.  She had 2 items that instantly brought me back this - my Susan McCord Trailing vines quit.
I'm slowly working away at handquilting it - outlining all the leaves takes lots of time!  I'm working down panel #5 out of 13.  But back ...

a gift given from Mrs Sew n' sew

I was pleased to finish this quilt recently and give it to my mom.  It's a Kim Diehl pattern from the April 2014 Fons and Porter magazine.  I machine quilted it on my Juki machine
I wasn't sure how to quilt the appliqued center blocks.  In the end I learned that's it's not too difficult to free motion quilt outlining around the appliqué shapes just like I would do if I was handquilting.
After that the borders were easy and fun.
These pictures are all square...  I recently changed Iphones and lost a month's worth ...
